Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe 2010
Exterior
You can recognize a Coupé from Mercedes-Benz upon first glance. It design is unmistakable, featuring an unusual synthesis of sportiness and elegance. The new E-Class Coupé follows this line with every detail – from the Coupé radiator grille with two louvers and Mercedes-Benz star all the way to the exhaust tip. The distinctive character of the front area, the powerful shoulder line and the muscular rear with diffuser and LED tail lights symbolize pure dynamism. And the continuous retractable side windows without the interruption of a B-pillar demonstrate a unique elegance. The newly interpreted twin headlamp face comes with projection headlamps and a combination of daytime driving lights and fog lamps in a twin circular headlamp design, or optionally in an LED version.
Interior
The interior of the new E-Class Coupé is a compelling proposition, offering contours and mobility offered by few Coupés in this class. The materials used are of a high quality and with an outstanding finish. With the choice between the ELEGANCE and AVANTGARDE interior concepts, you can opt for an elegant tone-in-tone design or a sporty contrast-tone look. The trim elements are in brushed aluminum as standard; fine wood is also available as an option – for ELEGANCE in burr walnut and brown pine, and for AVANTGARDE in black ash. The glass panoramic sliding sunroof with electric roller sun blinds creates an additional sense of space. Available as an optional extra, it extends to the rear of the vehicle.
E 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCYEconomical, powerful and low in emissions: that’s the newly developed E 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY. The 4-cylinder in-line engine with direct injection is characterized by its smoothness of operation across all engine speed ranges and has an output of 150 kW (204 hp) and a maximum torque rating of 310 Nm. Its low consumption figures are due in part to its engine concept, which is based on a comparably small displacement of 1.8 liters, and includes turbocharging. The saving in weight and reduced inner friction losses mean that the engine functions highly economically and can comply with the stricter limits on consumption and emissions. The optimized CGI direct injection system also promotes economic engine usage.
(Provisional figures: E 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY: fuel consumption combined: 7.2 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 167 g/km)E 350 CGI BlueEFFICIENCYModern V6 technology is the basis of the new E 350 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY with direct injection. The petrol engine has a rated torque of 365 NM at 3000-5100 rpm, delivers 215 kW (292 hp) and accelerates in 6.3 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h. Four-valve technology, variable camshaft control range for the intake and exhaust side, a two-stage intake manifold and a balancer shaft are amongst the technical details. The second generation of the Mercedes-Benz direct petrol injection with spray-guided combustion system and high-pressure direct injection via precise piezo injectors also ensures that the engine can function economically and with low emissions.
(Provisional figures: E 350 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY: fuel consumption urban: 12.3-12.4 l/100 km, extra-urban 6.3-6.6 l/100 km, combined: 8.5-8.7 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 199-203 g/km) E 500The E 500 is the most powerful engine for the new E-Class Coupé. The V8 engine has an output of 285 kW (388 hp) and develops a maximum torque rating of 530 Nm in the range between 2800 and 4800 rpm. Just 5.6 seconds are all this engine needs to accelerate the Coupé from 0 to 100 km/h – a peak value.
(Provisional figures: E 500: fuel consumption urban: 16.1 l/100 km, extra-urban 7.8 l/100 km, combined: 10.9 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 254 g/km)E 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCYThe new 4-cylinder E 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY in-line engine is more powerful, quieter and has lower consumption than comparable earlier models. Its maximum torque of 500 Nm is available even at lower engine speeds between 1600 and 1800 rpm. If required the engine can generate an output of 150 kW (204 hp). This is due to the use of the fourth generation common-rail technology with an injection pressure increased to 2000 bar plus the highly precise piezo injectors – they make it possible to very quickly and finely dose the quantity of fuel injected. In addition there are two Lanchester balancer shafts which contribute significantly to the smooth running characteristics of the new engine.
(Provisional figures: E 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY: fuel consumption combined: 5.3-5.8 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 139-158 g/km) E 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCYImpressive performance figures characterise the E 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY. With six cylinders the engine achieves an output of 170 kW (231 hp) and a maximum torque of 540 Nm, even at an engine speed range of between 1600 and 2400 rpm – the ideal conditions for spontaneous sprints. At the same time the engine works cleanly and economically, with help from the quick and precise piezo injectors and the injection pressure of up to 1600 bar. The engine also meets the EU 5 emission limits and the standard-fit particulate filter makes a further significant reduction in soot emissions.
(E 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY: fuel consumption urban: 8.9 l/100 km, extra-urban: 5.6 l/100 km, combined: 6.8 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 179 g/km)Exhaust systemsThree different exhaust systems are available for the E-Class Coupé: the 4-cylinder models are fitted with an oval tailpipe, the 6-cylinder models with two oval tailpipes. The 8-cylinder engine in the E 500 also has a dual-pipe exhaust system. As a differentiating feature, a trapezoidal pipe is integrated in the bumper cover.
The catalytic converter for the petrol models and particulate filter for the diesel models are compulsory.6-speed manual transmissionWith its short and precise shift lever throws the 6-speed manual transmission allows for fast gear changes and dynamic driving with economical consumption figures. It is integrated in the E 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY as standard. In addition it improves ride comfort as gear spacing, the rear axle ratio and engine output are precisely tuned to one another. 5-speed automatic transmissionThe 5-speed automatic transmission with Touchshift comes as standard in the E 250 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY and is available as an option for the E 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY. It provides extremely smooth gear changes for improved comfort. At the touch of a button you can select between two shifting programmes which allow you to electronically control the transmission characteristics and the shift points – for an economical or sporty driving style. 7G-TRONIC automatic transmissionIn the E 350 CGI BlueEFFICIENCY, E 500 and E 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY models, the standard-specification 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission changes gear for you. Thanks to smaller sudden engine speed changes, an optimum ratio can be maintained at all times. This has the effect of reducing fuel consumption and optimising acceleration. At the same time it produced smoother transitions between the gears. When shifting down through the gears, 7G-TRONIC’s direct multiple downshift principle allows it to skip individual gears, making for faster gear changes.
For even sportier progress, you can also operate the 7G-TRONIC transmission with steering-wheel shift paddles, which are included as part of the optional extras of the AMG sports package and dynamic handling package for automatic models (standard for E 500). The two side-mounted buttons behind the wheel permit rapid upshifts and downshifts for even more driving pleasure. As another special feature, keeping the downshift steering wheel gearshift paddle pressed in automatically engages the best gear for rapid acceleration.AGILITY CONTROLEnjoy your drive – the standard-specification AGILITY CONTROL package can smooth out most bumps on the road and ensures that you experience sporty ride comfort every time. It adjusts automatically to both the current road conditions and your driving style. With a standard driving style, more gentle shock absorber characteristics deliver tyre noise and vibration. As soon as you employ a more dynamic driving style, the E-Class Coupé is stabilised using the full damping effect. In response to weaker shocks, it reduces the damping force individually at each wheel and enhances tyre noise and vibration. When the vehicle encounters more pronounced uneven sections of road, the AGILITY CONTROL package steps up the damping effect, which can increase the driving stability of the E-Class Coupé. The steering system has an adaptive ratio and, in conjunction with the manual transmission, short-throw shifting means even more precise control.
If you’d like even more sportiness the optional AGILITY CONTROL sports suspension with speed-sensitive sports steering is the ideal choice (standard equipment in conjunction with AMG sports package). In comparison with the standard-fit AGILITY CONTROL suspension the springs and shock absorbers of the AGILITY CONTROL sports suspension are more tightly tuned. It reduces the rolling motions and improves handling. The more direct steering ratio of the speed-sensitive sports steering supplements the suspension by enabling a more spontaneous transfer of the steering movements to the road. Dynamic handling packageWith the optional dynamic handling package (standard with the E 500), just a simple touch of the “SPORT” button is all it takes to switch all the related systems from the regular comfort mode to sport mode. The damping becomes noticeably tighter and the engine’s response to the accelerator is much more direct. At the same time, the shift program of the automatic transmission changes to a more offensive mode, which ensures optimum acceleration at all times. The speed-sensitive sports steering creates a more sporty and direct steering sensation in both driving modes. ADAPTIVE BRAKEThe brake drying function of the ADAPTIVE BRAKE system with HOLD function is used in wet conditions. The brakes are applied lightly to remove the film of water which forms on the brake discs when driving in the wet. This ensures that the brakes can operate to optimum effect if required. The HOLD function is activated by the driver to prevent the vehicle from rolling back unexpectedly, for example.ELEGANCE interior conceptThe ELEGANCE interior concept emphasises the elegant side of the sporty E-Class Coupé. The interior with brushed aluminium trim parts is equipped with a tone-in-tone look, and the A-pillars, C-pillars and roof lining are covered in a light-coloured fabric. The colour concept continues in the cockpit where the instrument cluster and steering wheel plus the shift and selector lever are offset in a subdued contrast colour (except when black is the interior colour). The standard choices for the upholstery are the fabric/ARTICO man-made leather combination in black or alpaca grey. Options include leather or nappa leather in black, alpaca grey and almond beige. Also available as an option are trim parts in brown pine or burr walnut wood.AVANTGARDE interior conceptIf you want to emphasise the sporty side of your new E-Class Coupé, you can opt for the AVANTGARDE interior concept: with black as the base colour, black A-pillars and C-pillars plus a black roof liner and instrument cluster with a silver-coloured backplate. For the seats, the door centre panels and the rear side elements there are five choices available for selection: the standard-fit fabric/ARTICO man-made leather combination in black, or for the optional leather a choice between black, alpaca grey, almond beige, flamenco red and natural beige and the optional appointments of black nappa leather, alpaca grey and almond beige. The trim parts are also optionally available in black ash. Standard Equipment
